Education Endowment Created

Bruce and Susan Wasserman recently donated $8,000 to Harbor House to inaugurate an endowment for education. The endowment will be used to help cover higher education expenses for Harbor House youth. These expenses can include tuition, books, student fees, college application fees, travel expenses for school visits, etc. Our goal is to initially fund the endowment at $30,000. Please contribute to the endowment and support higher education for our youth. On your contribution, please designate that the funds are for the youth education endowment.

Quyen Vo: Volunteer of the Month

Quyen Vo

As an immigrant who grew up in East Oakland, Quyen Vo has long been familiar with many of the challenges facing youth in our community. Having come through both public and private schools on his way to Yale University, Quyen decided to spend part of his summer helping young people in his hometown before continuing his studies at Cambridge in the fall.

This summer, Quyen has spent two days a week volunteering in our afternoon youth program, assisting with art and education activities and bringing life to our team of staff and interns. In addition to working with kids, Quyen has also helped research the history of our 100-year-old facility, in order to help us raise funds for its continued maintenance and rehabilitation. Thank you Quyen!

This Ole House Turns 100

Harbor House’s building is 100 years old! Volunteer needed to continue researching the history of the building and funding for historic sites.

Harbor House’s 35th Anniversary

On October 11th, we celebrated Harbor House’s 35th Anniversary! During the celebration, we ate delicious food served by Harbor House youth, held our silent auction, set our eyes upon stunning quilts created by the participants in our quilting program, enjoyed fellowship, fun, and an inspiring program.

Dr. Tony Campolo, our keynote speaker, made us laugh, cry, reflect and sing! Most of all, he spurred us on to serve. Do the work! Jesus did the work! He challenged us: are we teaching our kids to finish school so they can go to college? For what? So they can get a good job? For what? So they can make a lot of money? For what? So they can have a lot of nice things and live in a nice place? No! We should be teaching them to become equipped to serve their brothers and sisters in Christ. Get a good education in order to be smart and creative in serving with the community.

Office Space for Lease

Harbor House has office space available for lease. The average office space is 250 square feet. The rooms lease for $1.00 per sq. ft. Contact Joel Mackey at 510-534-0165 for further information.
